Ying-Tsun Chen (Sam), is a Pharmacist-Scientist working in bacterial pathogenesis and a global health advocate for antimicrobial resistance awareness. After he completed his training in pharmacy, Ying-Tsun was trained in infectious diseases at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital before he embarked on his military journey. Ying-Tsun joined the Marine Corps logistic command to serve as a medical officer in the health intelligence unit to provide medical and intelligence support at the frontline while he was deployed to Southeast Asia, the Gulf, and West Africa. Currently, he is a research associate working with Dr. Alice Prince and Dr. Sebastián A. Riquelme at Columbia University Pediatric Infectious Diseases in New York City. Together, Ying-Tsun is attempting to find solutions for antimicrobial resistance through host-pathogen interactions and immunometabolism. As a global health advocate, Ying-Tsun has been working with NGOs since 2019, and he served as the Chairperson of Public Health of IPSF (a Netherlands-based NGO advocating for healthcare students) in 2021, leading to IPSF's accreditation to United Nations specialized agencies, including UNEP and UNFCCC. He is now working with the WHO as a technical advisor to the Sexual Reproductive Health and Research unit and the Co-Chair of the WHO Youth Council to find strategies that will best support meaningful youth engagement in the global health space.
