Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI):

Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC) represents the essence of large, diverse, and multicultural communities that encourage both collaborative and energic work. Based in a nation harboring diverse cultural backgrounds our institution promotes an inclusive environment where individuals of any gender, race, and religion can develop their talents and careers. Our goal is to enrich our campuses, facilities, and research laboratories by providing equivalent opportunities to minorities, LGBTQ+, veterans, and citizens from different latitudes, as well as to embrace a multi-lingual atmosphere where anyone can freely express without the fear of being oppressed. In the Riquelme lab, we welcome students, faculty, and staff that identify themselves as either woman, man, non-binary, or any other personal identification, establishing a setting of respect, mutual care, and social responsibility. Similarly, we encourage the polite utilization of pronouns, not discriminating based on physical appearance. In our workplace, we are constantly participating in educational programs to improve our awareness on matters related to diversity, equity, and inclusion, hearing the opinion of experts, as well as learning how to solve situations in where people’s right have been infringed. Our research is framed by the collective themes represented in this statement, seeking for the elaboration of an unbiased, robust, an honest program that significantly contributes to the progress of a better society.
